The BBFC certificate is a big part of creating a film, keeping it
within a specific classification is key especially if this effects the audience
and more specifically the target audience. An example would be a film aimed at
teenagers getting given an 18 rating.
As the target audience for our film is
also teenagers it would be ideal if our film maintained a 12/12A rating as this
would allow the full extent of our audience to view our movie in cinema as well
as purchase it for home viewing.
According to the BBFC website our movie
cannot contain an over expression of "injuries or blood, but occasional
gory moments may be permitted if they can be justified". Our opening
sequence does contain images of blood however these have not been linked to
injury or pain inflicted on an individual. They merely exist to show the
suggestion that this is not your typical fairytale film contrasting with the
innocent images of cakes an nature.
The audience can also not see any form of violence in the actual
sequence, it is only suggested and therefore I believe it can be argued that it
still remains within the 12/12A category. If the scene was deemed too violent we would go back and re film to make sure it stayed within the category as this allows our target audience to still be able to see the film with no difficulty.
The sequence does not tackle with other elements of classification
and therefore should be able to get into the 12/12A category without too much
difficult.
