PRACTICE TASK – Review
We were asked to create a shot movie promoting our sixth
form. We had to complete the following within the video:
n create
a short (1-2 minutes) video which includes the following:
n Titles
n Credits
n Imported
sound (google ‘copyright free music’)
n Slow
motion
n Colour
tint and at least two other effects
This task would help us to grab a basic understanding of
filming and editing for anyone who did not know how to do either. It would also
help us to have a practice of using the equipment we needed to use for filming
our preliminary task and our final task.
I used a … camera using a tripod for some of the filming to
make the image stable and not shaky. The editing software I used was Serif
Movie Plus X6. I used both pieces of equipment when creating my GCSE coursework
and also making videos every so often. I was fairly confident when using this
equipment and thus knew how to use both camera and editing software to the best
of my ability.
We used a free lesson to set up a camera outside and film the
school. We also created a spider diagram beforehand of everything we wanted to
include within the video, this wasn’t in too much detail it just contained all
of the camera movements and shots we wanted to include.
Our main problem was that people kept interrupting our shots;
this meant we had to re film many different scenes. Other than this we had no
other problems.
I learnt how to make an effective match on action, and how
to use sound bridges to make my work more interesting and intriguing for the
audience. I also polished up on my editing skills as I hadn’t used editing
software since the summer. If I was to re do this task I would include more
text on screen and more experimental camera work instead of using the same
types over and over.
